A
new resource you can use to look for scholarships is the
411DollarsforScholars website. This site makes accessible,
for students and parents, resource centers offering high-quality,
personalized assistance and information about colleges
and careers. The resources are available for all Macon
County residents. Local sites include: Decatur Public Library
and Argenta Public Library among other library sites. To

Golden
K Kiwanis Club of Decatur Scholarship Open to any graduating
senior or graduate of a four year high school in Macon
County. You must attend full-time or be accepted into an
accredited college or university. The applicants shall
submit a completed application form, available in the guidance
office; evidence of academic ability and participation
in high school, community, and/or church activities; evidence
of financial need; two letters of recommendation, one of
which is from one of the applicant’s recent teachers.
The deadline for applications has been extended to March
15, 2010.

Scholarship Giveaway Go to M2 in Urbana, Illinois beginning
January 2 to have a look at Prom dresses and to register
to win one of two $500 scholarships. You must register
in person with a student ID. All female and male senior
students from all schools in Illinois and Indiana will
be eligible. One entry per student. One winner will be
drawn and announced on Saturday, February 13, and the other
will be drawn and announced on Saturday May 1, 2010. For

Bank Internet Scholarship Program Available to high school
seniors and college undergraduates. Forty $1000 scholarships
awarded in a random drawing. No essays. Program runs October

General
Assembly Scholarship: 44th district. (Senator Bill Brady)
Students who will be attending state universities in Illinois
and are interested in applying for the General Assembly
scholarship must submit their applications to the office
of Sen. Bill Brady. Students who addresses are in the 44th
district are eligible. Eight one-year tuition waivers are
available to students who will be attending state universities,
with scholarships specifically designated for nursing,
agriculture, and a veteran or the child of a veteran. Information

Springfield
Diocesan Council of Catholic Women (DCCW) Female High School
Senior Leadership Scholarship One $1000 scholarship, two
$500 scholarships; For senior Catholic female seniors who
exemplify DCCW’s mission values of leadership, faith,
and service. In what ways have you exemplified the values
of leadership, faith, and service in your community, parish,
and school? More information is available in the guidance
office. Deadline: Postmarked by March 13, 2010.
Illinois
Division of Sons of Confederate Veterans, Illinois Society,
Military Order of Stars & Bars $1000 scholarship to
a graduating senior, male or female, who resides in Illinois
and will be enrolling in the fall at a community college,
college, or university. Student must be a descendant of
a male who served honorably in the Army, Navy, Judicial,
Executive, or Civil Service of the Confederate States of
America. Lineal or collateral family lines must be documented
genealogically with a descendancy chart. Student must submit
a 500 word essay. The topic of the essay shall deal with
an event, person, philosophy, or idea associated with such
cause during the War Between the States. All information
must be submitted to the Illinois Society State Chair and
postmarked prior to March 15, 2010. For more information,

Macon
County 4-H Foundation Scholarships All applicants must
be or have been a member of Macon County 4-H. Application
forms available in the guidance office or online at http://web.extension.uiuc.edu/macon/downloads/20943.doc All
completed applications are due March 15, 2010. For more
information, call the U of I extension office at 217-877-6042.
Ken and Betty Moser Scholarships: The Ken and Betty Moser Scholarships are one-time
$3000 grants awarded to two 4-H members from Macon County pursuing a post
high school degree. The Macon County 4-H Scholarship application must be
submitted for consideration of this award.
Warren E Myers Scholarship: The Macon County 4-H Foundation also administers
the W.E. Myers Scholarship Fund. Each year the 4-H Foundation may select
an outstanding agriculture college bound freshman and award a one-time
$300 grant.
Jim Flach Memorial Scholarship: This scholarship is a one-time $500 grant awarded
to a 4-H member or former 4-H member from Macon County or an adjoining county.
Preference is given to members who are majoring in, or plan to major in, the
field of agriculture or a related field.
Betty and Mona Hartwig Scholarship: This scholarship is a one time $1000 grant
awarded to a 4-H member from Macon County pursuing a post high school degree.
The Cancer Care Specialists Charitable Fund Scholarship Open to any health care
professional or individual in Central Illinois interested in oncology/hematology-related
education opportunities. Applications are available in the guidance office or
at Cancer Care Specialists of Central Illinois (Decatur). Call (217) 876-6600
if you need additional information. The Selection committee will review applications
on a quarterly basis. Recipients will be notified in writing within 90 days.
This fund provides scholarships to individuals, including students, interested
in pursuing oncology/hematology-related careers.
AO Sports Booster Scholarship Eligibility:
All senior athletes planning to attend college who meet the following guidelines:
The student must have participated in an IHSA sanctioned sport their senior year.
The student must have completed the sport in good standing, both behaviorally
and academically. If an athlete is injured his/her senior year, he/she will still
be eligible for the scholarship. New student transfers may be handled differently
depending on the situation. The parent/guardian must have been active for 2 years
in Booster Club events and help with 4 events each year (ticket-taking, chili
supper, and Booster Club meetings are examples of these events). There will be
one $500 scholarship for a male athlete and one $500 scholarship for a female
athlete, presented during the graduation Deadline: March 27, 2010.
2009-2010 87th Legislative District Scholarship (State Representative Bill Mitchell)
General Assembly Scholarship covers tuition and may apply to certain fees at
any State of Illinois public college or university (excluding community colleges).
To be eligible, your permanent address must be within the 87th Representative
district. If you are a registered voter, you can look on your voter's registration
card. If you are not a registered voter, you may call your county clerk's office
to find out if your address is in the 87th District. Deadline: April 1, 2010.
Scottish Rite Scholarships Some of these scholarships require a Masonic Lodge
affiliation by a relative; others do not. To see a list of all scholarships

The Illinois Scottish Rite Scholarship program has sponsored over 50 students
from our region for the past several years. For the 2009-2010 school years,
many students were awarded over $65,000 in scholarships. Deadline: April
1, 2010.
Illinois Sheriff’s Association $500 Scholarship Open to Illinois residents.
Applications available on the internet at www.ilsheriff.org or
in the guidance office. Essay of 350 words or less required: “The Illinois
General Assembly is considering legalizing medical marijuana. Senate Bill 1381
will allow individuals with certain medical conditions to grow up to 6 plants
and possess a 60 day supply of cannibis. Do you support or oppose this legislation
and why?” Deadline: April 12, 2010.
Children of Decatur Education Association Members Scholarship Graduating seniors
who are children of DEA members who will be continuing their education are eligible
to apply for this scholarship. Sons and daughters of DEA members are encouraged
to apply. Application forms available in the AO guidance office.
Deadline: April 14.
Michael E. Shampine Memorial Scholarship $500 scholarship. Open to any graduate
of a four year high school that is a union member or related to a union
member who is affiliated with Decatur Trades & Labor Assembly, AFL-CIO.
Eligible applicants include: union member, spouse, child, or legal guardianship.
The applicant will be required to come in person for an interview on April
17, 2010 and will be required to write a short (one page) handwritten essay
at the time of the interview. The essay topic will be around the following
subject: “How does the labor movement affect the community in which
I live?” The ideal recipient will be recognized as having a desire
to succeed by demonstrating strengths in leadership, community involvement,
and political awareness. Application must be filled out and submitted by
April 14, 2010. Applications available in the AO guidance office.
Sons of the American Legion Castle-Williams Post #105 Scholarship Open to graduating
seniors who are residents of Macon County. The scholarship is for $1000.
Requires writing an original essay of not more than 1000 words on the topic “My
Obligation as an American”. The winner will be selected on the basis
of character, Americanism, leadership, scholarship, basis of need, and
having a parent, grandparent, brother or sister having served in the military.
Requires three letters of recommendation. Application forms available in
the guidance office.
Deadline: April 15, 2010.
Stokes Educational Scholarship Program Open to high school seniors, particularly
minority students, planning on majoring in computer science or computer/electrical
engineering. With the Stokes Program, you will attend college full time,
then work during the summer at the National Security Agency for 12 weeks
in areas that are related to your course of study. You’ll acquire
real world experience and receive a salary year round. In addition to the
work experience, you’ll get tuition and mandatory fees for the college
of your choice, reimbursement for required textbooks up to $1500 per year,
housing and travel entitlements during summer employment, year round salary
while attending college, and continued employment with National Security
Agency after graduation. To be eligible, you must have an ACT of 25 or
higher, a “B” average or higher, and majoring in Computer Science
or Computer/Electrical Engineering. For more information about this program,
