Welcome to Argenta-Oreana Community Unit School District #1

We appreciate your interest in our school district and welcome your questions. The entire A-O administrative team has an open-door policy and is available to answer questions or to provide more detailed information regarding our district.

A-O School District offers an excellent educational program for all students.
Here are a few interesting facts about our A-O schools.
Argenta-Oreana School District is comprised of approximately 76 square
miles of territory in Macon and DeWitt counties. The communities of Argenta,
Oreana, and northeastern Decatur are located within its boundaries. Most
people are surprised to learn that our school district extends in Decatur as
far south as Pershing Road, as far west as Woodford Street, and as far east
as Lake Decatur. The northern portion of our school district extends into
DeWitt County, encompassing a few acres of farmland.

Our school district is organized by attendance centers. A-O Elementary
School, grades Pre-K to 5, is located in Oreana. A-O Middle and A-O High School
are located in Argenta. The District Office is also located in Argenta.
Classrooms in all our schools are equipped with telephones and
Internet connections. School breakfast and lunch is available at the
elementary school. School lunch is available at the middle and high
school. The District offers half-day programs in Pre-K.

Each school offers a comprehensive curriculum that includes not only
regular classroom instruction, but also remedial classes,
classes in art, band and chorus, laboratory science instruction,
home economics, career education, physical education, and computer
instruction. The high school curriculum is expanded through the
availability of additional vocational and technical classes at the
Decatur Area Technical Academy. Extra-curricular activities are available for students in grades 6-12. In grades 6-8, eligible students may participate in volleyball, track, baseball, basketball, wrestling, cheerleading, scholastic bowl and student committee. Eligible students in grades 9-12 may participate in football, volleyball, basketball, wrestling, baseball, softball, track, cross country and cheerleading. Cross country and wrestling are part of a sports CO-OP with Maroa-Forsyth District #2. Additional opportunities are available in scholastic bowl, yearbook, student council, and drama.

Argenta-Oreana School District employs 70 certificated teachers and
38 support staff. The average teaching experience of teachers is
16.5 years. 66.7 % of the teachers have bachelor degrees. 33.3% of the
teachers have masters degrees or above. The pupil-teacher ratio at the
elementary school is 16.8:1; at the secondary level the ratio is 15.5:1. Instructional expenditure per pupil is $4,043. Operating expenditure per pupil is $7,412.

Please assist us in our one goal: To continuously improve the education of our students
