ARGENTA-OREANA HIGH SCHOOL SENIOR TRIP RULES FOR THE CLASS OF 2018 AND BEYOND OVERVIEW
In recent years it has become increasingly difficult to conduct senior trips for a variety of reasons. A survey of nine other area schools revealed that only one other school offers a Senior Trip.

In an effort to avoid missing school, senior trips have been scheduled on weekends, typically leaving early Saturday and arriving back Sunday night. The weekend dates and overnight aspects of the trip have been a source of concern and have limited the number of staff who are willing to serve as chaperones.

Additional concerns include, but are not limited to:
1. The liability involved with overnight trips.
2. Difficulty agreeing on a safe and suitable location for an overnight trip.
3. The affordability of the trip which has limited the number of students able to attend.

CRITERIA ADOPTED BY THE A-O BOARD OF EDUCATION ON DECEMBER 12, 2016 THAT WILL BEGIN WITH THE CLASS OF 2018

1. LENGTH OF TRIP: The senior trip will be a one day trip conducted on a Friday or a school day in which there is no school the following day. No overnight trips will occur. A minimum of three teacher chaperones and one administrator MUST accompany the trip for it to occur.

2. LOCATION OF TRIP: A list of 5-6 trip options will be developed that classes will be allowed to vote on. The option receiving the most votes will be the destination for their senior trip. (Initial discussions included Chicago, St. Louis, Indianapolis, Cincinnati, Galena, Quad Cities, and Wisconsin Dells)

3. ELIGIBILITY TO PARTICIPATE: In order to attend the senior trip, students must be on track academically to graduate with the current senior class. Students engaging in a pattern of inappropriate or egregious behavior or excessive absences may be prohibited from attending the senior trip.
