2021 CBAI Foundation for Community Banking Annual Scholarship Program

CBAI is in its 46th year of representing community banks and thrift institutions. The goals of this scholarship program are to:
- Foster a better understanding of the role of community banks in the local economy;
- Provide community banks with a way to give back to young scholars in their communities;
- Provide financial aid to deserving high school seniors in our communities.
Eligibility Requirements: High school senior graduating in May 2021, US Citizen, Illinois resident
Award: The overall winner will receive a $1,000 renewable scholarship for up to four years; 11 additional winners will receive a $1,000 one-time scholarship, and 12 additional winners will receive a one-time $500 scholarship
- Complete a student application and background information form. See the linked document to print these.
- Write a one-page essay, double-spaced, Times New Roman 10-12 point font, on the following topic-Why is a trusted partner such as a community bank so valuable to have during a global pandemic?
Additional essay requirements: Do not mention a specific bank, banker, or city. Do not mention the movies Forrest Gump or It’s a Wonderful Life. Do not put your name on the essay.
Essay judgement criteria: Essays should show an understanding of the community banking philosophy, accurate information, clear and concise sentences, logical organization, proper grammar, correct punctuation and spelling, and conclusion/summary.
You may submit the completed application, background information form, and essay to Mrs. Mendez, and she will submit it to Gerber State Bank in Argenta for consideration. The bank then chooses which essays to submit to CBAI. The submission deadline to Mrs. Mendez or Gerber State Bank is Friday, January 15.
