COLLEGE & CAREERS

How do I use a school day for a college visit? All steps must be complete one week prior to the absence in order to be excused.

  1. Forward your visit confirmation from the college's admission office to Mrs. Mendez.

  2. Come get a college visit form from her.

  3. Turn the signed form back into her or the office at least one week in advance to the visit. It must be signed by a parent and each of the teachers whose classes you will miss.

College & Career Information Sessions

Colleges & other career representatives will be visiting on certain days to provide general information on their institution. If you'd like to make an appointment with one of these representatives on the day they're here, please let Mrs. Mendez know ahead of time.

Search for Colleges

If you have a College Board account, you can go to Big Future and search for colleges with all different filters: by major, location, etc. From here, you can save colleges to your list and go back and reference them later.

If you don't have a College Board account and would rather do a general search, go to Peterson's for a similar search engine.

Do a general college search or search by major through Princeton Review.

Search for Careers

Illinois Work Net provides job searches, training information, and career information for Illinois specifically. Go to Menu > Explore Careers to take an interest survey and see what careers could be right for you!

Occupational Outlook Handbook is created by the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Each year, they take data from all careers in the United States and organize it to show us which careers are growing, and which aren't. It also gives median income information and geographical areas which have the highest need for each career.

North America's Building Trades Unions is a website that gives an overview to union apprenticeship programs all across North America. An apprenticeship is a paid career training program, usually hands-on, and will lead to a high-paying career. Apprenticeship programs train for careers such as Plumbing & Pipefitting/HVAC (ua137.org), Operating Engineers, Ironworkers, Electricians, etc. See Mrs. Mendez for specific local apprenticeship contact information.
